Wellbeing Age®
+ Longevity
Unlock Your Potential to Live Well for Longer with our Deep Dive into Your Biological Age.
In today’s fast-paced and often stressful world, it’s easy to lose sight of the daily choices that quietly shape our long-term health and vitality. While many people seek help only after pain or illness develops, true wellbeing begins with prevention — by understanding how your lifestyle, environment, and stress are influencing your body right now.
The Wellbeing Age® Assessment bridges the gap between how old you are and how well you are. By identifying and addressing the key factors that contribute to accelerated ageing, this innovative assessment offers a unique window into your current state of wellbeing — and, more importantly, provides clear, evidence-based steps to enhance your health, longevity, and overall quality of life.
At The Pain & Injury Clinic, we believe that true health goes far beyond the absence of pain. Research consistently shows that proactive health management can not only add years to life but also add life to years. The Wellbeing Age® Assessment empowers you to take control of your health trajectory through knowledge, insight, and guided support.
What is the Wellbeing Age® Assessment?
The Wellbeing Age® Assessment is a comprehensive, science-informed, holistic evaluation of how well your body, mind, and lifestyle are ageing — as opposed to just counting years. The goal is to estimate your biological/functional age (or “Wellbeing Age”) rather than your chronological age. This gives insight into how your current habits and physiology are accelerating or slowing down your internal ageing process.
Wellbeing People’s Advanced Wellbeing Age® Assessment, for example, combines physical, emotional, and lifestyle factors in a 10-step algorithm to produce a Wellbeing Age figure.
What makes the assessment valuable is not just the age number, but the insights it provides: which domains of your health are strong, and which are in need of improvement.
An Evidence-based Approach to Longevity:
the Wellbeing Age® Assessment.
Your Wellbeing Age Assessment is a comprehensive, one-to-one health evaluation led by an experienced clinician or wellbeing professional. It combines a detailed medical history, lifestyle analysis, and physical examination to give you a 360° understanding of your overall health and performance.
1. Clinical, Lifestyle, & Past Medical History.
This is the essential first step with any patient we see. We gather data about you health, such as:
- Major illnesses, surgeries, hospitalisations, chronic conditions (e.g. hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, musculoskeletal problems, psychiatric conditions).
- Medication & supplement list (with doses).
Family history: longevity, cardiovascular disease, cancer, dementia, metabolic disease. - Lifestyle & behaviour: Nutrition / diet patterns (macronutrient balance, timing, caloric habits)
- Physical activity: type, frequency, intensity (aerobic, resistance, mobility)
- Sedentary behaviour: sitting time, screen time
- Sleep: duration, quality, disruptions, chronotype
- Stress levels and recovery habits
- Social engagement, purpose, mental wellbeing
- Substance use: smoking, alcohol (if relevant), stimulants, caffeine
Other relevant exposures: environmental, occupational, pollutants
This allows us to understand the unique factors shaping your wellbeing and identify potential risks before they develop into problems.
2. Physical & Functional Examination.
Your clinician will then perform a series of non-invasive tests and measures designed to assess how effectively your body’s major systems are functioning.
These results form the foundation of your Wellbeing Age calculation and are interpreted within the context of your personal history and lifestyle.
A. Vital Signs & Anthropometric Measures
We begin with fundamental health indicators:
Blood pressure and resting heart rate
Oxygen saturation and respiratory rate
Height, weight, and body mass index (BMI)
Waist, hip, and limb circumference measurements
Body composition analysis — fat mass, muscle mass, and visceral fat estimation
These metrics provide a snapshot of cardiovascular load, metabolic efficiency, and overall physiological balance.
B. Cardiovascular Health & Aerobic Function
Your cardiovascular system is a key determinant of longevity. Depending on clinical suitability, testing may include:
Pulse wave velocity or arterial stiffness screening (vascular elasticity)
Heart rate recovery and variability (HRV) analysis
Submaximal aerobic fitness testing (e.g. 3-minute step test or walk test)
Peripheral circulation assessment
These parameters help assess cardiovascular resilience and autonomic nervous system balance — crucial indicators of both lifespan and healthspan.
C. Musculoskeletal Strength, Mobility & Postural Function
Aging often reveals itself first in the muscles, joints, and connective tissues. Your assessment may include:
Grip strength (a validated marker of overall vitality and functional ageing)
Lower-limb power and balance testing
Functional movement screening: posture, range of motion, coordination, and gait assessment
Core stability and flexibility analysis
Pain or restriction mapping, where appropriate
These measures allow us to quantify your musculoskeletal robustness and identify early deficits that may contribute to fatigue, injury, or decline in physical performance.
D. Metabolic & Biochemical Health (Optional)
For a more advanced profile, laboratory or point-of-care testing can be included to assess:
Fasting glucose, HbA1c, or insulin resistance
Lipid profile (cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL/LDL balance)
Inflammatory markers (C-reactive protein, homocysteine)
Thyroid and hormone status (where relevant)
This biochemical insight can refine your metabolic age score and guide precise nutritional or lifestyle interventions.
E. Neurological, Cognitive & Stress Response
Brain health and resilience are integral to healthy ageing. Simple, validated tests may assess:
Reaction time and hand–eye coordination
Short-term memory and concentration
Mental fatigue and stress perception
Sleep–wake rhythm consistency
Emotional regulation and resilience
Where appropriate, Heart Rate Variability and stress reactivity can provide an objective measure of your autonomic nervous system balance — a key determinant of recovery and wellbeing.
3. Wellbeing Age® Report & Personalised Guidance
Once you have all the data, you generate a Wellbeing Age Report. The report should include:
Your Wellbeing Age vs chronological age (e.g. “Your current functional age is 48 while your true age is 42”)
Domain-by-domain scores or sub-ages (e.g. cardiovascular, metabolic, musculoskeletal, mental resilience, lifestyle)
Key strengths (where you outperform expectations)
Riskiest deficits / red flags (which domains are dragging your age up)
Visuals / infographics to help with comprehension
Explanations: how the algorithm combined the domains, how certain lifestyles “add years” (e.g. through systemic inflammation).
You will then meet with your clinician for a one-to-one consultation, during which your report will be discussed in detail. You’ll gain a deep understanding of what your numbers mean, what’s driving them, and — most importantly — what you can do to improve them.
4. Tailored Action Plan & Ongoing Support
Knowledge is most powerful when it leads to action. Based on your results, you’ll receive a Personalised Wellbeing Action Plan outlining the specific steps to help lower your Wellbeing Age and improve your long-term health trajectory. This will include:
Targeted exercise recommendations: bespoke programmes for strength, mobility, cardiovascular fitness, and recovery
Personalised nutrition and supplementation advice: guidance on diet composition, portion balance, and micronutrient optimisation
Sleep enhancement strategies: improving duration, depth, and circadian regularity
Stress resilience techniques: evidence-based methods for mental calm and emotional regulation
Posture and movement corrections: strategies to reduce physical strain and prevent musculoskeletal issues
Environmental and lifestyle modifications: practical adjustments to support energy, focus, and longevity
We also offer ongoing follow-up assessments to track your progress, re-evaluate your Wellbeing Age, and refine your strategy as you improve. Many clients repeat their assessment annually to measure gains and maintain accountability.
Why Your Wellbeing Age Matters.
Traditional medical check-ups are designed to detect disease once it has already occurred.
The Wellbeing Age® Assessment takes a preventative and performance-oriented approach, allowing you to take control of your health before decline sets in.
The benefits include:
Early identification of risk factors for metabolic, cardiovascular, and musculoskeletal decline
Objective measurement of how lifestyle choices are influencing your health trajectory
Personalised guidance to make sustainable, evidence-based improvements
A clear, motivating metric — your Wellbeing Age — to track real progress over time
Greater confidence in managing your health, energy, and future longevity
The 10 's' Wellbeing Age® Framework.
At the heart of this system are the ten S-Factors, representing the core pillars of long-term health:
- Stress– Understand how physical, emotional, and psychological stressors affect your body’s balance and recovery.
- Sleep – Assess both the quality and quantity of your rest, which underpins repair, regeneration, and resilience.
- Substance – Examine how factors such as alcohol, caffeine, or medication influence your wellbeing and energy.
- Support – Evaluate the importance of social connection, belonging, and emotional support in sustaining wellbeing.
- Sustenance – Review your nutrition and hydration to identify where adjustments can enhance vitality and performance.
- Strength – Assess your muscular health, physical activity levels, and how they contribute to your long-term resilience.
- Suppleness – Explore flexibility, joint function, and movement quality as foundations for an active, pain-free life.
- Sensory – Consider the role of your senses — vision, hearing, and touch — in maintaining overall quality of life.
- Spirituality – Reflect on your sense of purpose, mindfulness, and connection, which strongly influence mental wellbeing.
- Self-Awareness – Develop insight into your habits, motivations, and the signals your body is sending you every day.
Together, these S-Factors provide a complete snapshot of your wellbeing, helping you prioritise the areas that will deliver the greatest benefit.
